Mountain Log Index > Entry
May 21st. Mt. Brandon:
Our beloved mountain! So good they named it twice! We were joined
by Micheal from Dublin and Jos and his father, Jon from The Netherlands.
We went down on Friday night so as to get an early start on Saturday
morning. The base as usual was the superb Brandon Hostel in Cloghane.
The day did not look at all promising with thick cloud and strong
winds as we took the route up from Faha. But as we left the summit
of Brandon Mountain heading south for Brandon Peak the cloud cleared
and, oh joy, oh rapture unforeseen, we had bright sunshine for the
rest of our ridge walk south to the saint's road. At the bottom
of the track we had stashed cars to avoid the pain of the four mile
trek back to base.
On Sunday the rain was bucketing down and we copped out with a circuit
of the Muckross and Dinas walk in Killarney. Jos and Paul say they
don't care if they never see another oak tree or lake again. To
add to our woes by the time we got to the restaurant at Muckross
House most of the food was sold out. Eibhear fell to the ground,
kicked his legs and cried…
