June Bank Holiday Weekend Away:
This weekend saw us join forces with the Dublin "Out &
About" Hill Walkers as our contribution to Cork Gay Pride 2006.
The sun shone on our endeavours for the weekend. On Saturday we
did The Coomloughra Horseshoe. Normally in hot weather there is
a haze but on this day there was an extraordinary clarity which
added an extra dimension to the day. On Sunday we did the western
end of The Coomasahern Horseshoe. Taking in Drung, Been Hill and
Beenmore, finishing at Kells Post Office. On Monday most of the
Dublin group took advantage of the settled weather to visit The
Skelligs.

Just wanted to thank Paul, Doc, Kevin, Cathal and Brian for
the wonderful weekend you planned for us. It was quite a personal
achievement for me to have "conquered" Carauntoohill and
(vertigo factor aside!) it was a brilliant experience. The holiday
cottages were great, not only very comfortable, but ideally located
with unsurpassable views. Thanks also for leaving the wine for us,
the photocopied maps, getting the sandwich ingredients, fruit, etc.
And of course the wonderful weather you arranged(!) - it all added
up to a really memorable Bank Holiday Weekend

I can't remember the last time I had such an enjoyable three
days. In fact I felt as if I'd been away for weeks. Thanks so much
for all the effort you went to and I look forward to meeting up
again soon on another hike.

Thanks to Paul, Doc, and all my fellow Corkonians for the great
weekend. Even if I found the Carauntuohill hike a 'bit' nerve-racking!
